LISTEN: Emma Burtles explains what the Santa run is all about
Aberfeldy is set to hold its first charity Santa run this weekend in aid of Just Wheels, with all participants earning special gifts for participating.
The Santa Run and Walk will be going ahead on the Saturday the 11th of December at 12.15pm from Home Street Football Ground.
Organiser Emma Burtles said: “I am Really excited. I’ve been planning to organise one of these for years and never quite going to it.
“It’s just a nice positive, healthy thing for us to do as a community in the run up to Christmas.
“We’re going to be starting and finishing from the Christmas market that’s taking place at the Home Street football ground in Aberfeldy, so you can duck into the market and do some shopping and get some nice tasty food either before or after the run.
Emma explained the idea behind the organisation of the event and who the fundraising will help.
“We are raising funds for an important charity called Just Wheels, which is charity that works in Tanzania supporting disabled people.
“So are the fund. Raised will go towards buying some wheelchairs and supporting a sport and wellbeing club for wheelchair users.
“We’re trying very much to enable people in Tanzania who have a really hard life to just have a little bit of an easier life and to give them hope and a positive future.
“We support people with the provision of wheelchair and access to education so they can either get back to school or whatever it is for each individual.
All fitness levels are welcome and despite the name, running is not required. The event is for to all ages and abilities to enjoy a fun family day out with the funds raised going towards a good cause.
Dogs are welcome but must be kept on a lead.
“I’m very much saying it’s a walk as well as a run, so people that don’t feel they could run round the golf course can come and walk, and that’s absolutely fine.
“It’s a 2-kilometre, 4-kilometre or 6-kilometre options, being once twice or three times round the golf course for your entry.
“You’ll get a Santa hat and a cake at the end – what more could you wish for?”
Participants can register by contacting Emma Burtles via email or by registering at the town hall today between 4-5pm. You can also register on the day between 11-12pm.
The run begins at 12.15pm and donations can be made online.
