New Vaccination Centre Opens in Perth

A new vaccination centre is opening in Perth and is opening its doors for drop in vaccinations this week.

There is no drop-in centre running this week in Highland Perthshire, however, local people can make their way to the new centre in Perth within the St Johns Shopping Centre.

They’ll be offering vaccinations from today (January 5) through to Friday (January 7) between 11am and 5pm.

NHS Tayside’s Associate Director for Public Health, Dr Daniel Chandler, said, “Dewars Centre has played a huge part in allowing us to deliver many thousands of vaccinations to the public in Perth & Kinross this year and we are very grateful to everyone who has been involved in this fantastic partnership effort.

“There has been lots work behind the scenes to identify and set up the new venue in the centre of Perth and we look forward to welcoming the first patients in the New Year.”

Appointments can be made for for anyone over 18 or those over 16 in an at-risk group looking for booster jabs, as well as first doses for over 12s and second doses for over 18s.

The new centre is running out of the former H&M outlet within the shopping centre and is going by the name ‘Perth Central’.

Around 200,000 doses of the vaccine were given out at the Dewars Centre and now Perth Central will continue to offer the vaccine and booster throughout the coming year.

Perth & Kinross Council Leader Murray Lyle said: “Thousands of people have received their vaccinations or boosters at Dewars since the start of the year.

“I would like to thank all the staff and volunteers who helped deliver vaccines at Dewars and everyone who has come forward for their jag.

“Getting vaccinated is the best protection against COVID and I would urge everyone who has not been vaccinated or had their booster to do so as soon as possible.”

Anyone attending the new vaccination centre by car can use any of the nearby car parks in the city centre. Blue Badge parking is available on South Street and there is drop-off access from King Edward Street with Shop Mobility located nearby at Canal Street.

Dr Daniel Chandler added: “We are continuing to offer COVID boosters to all those eligible, as well as first and second doses, and would encourage anyone who is yet get vaccinated to book an appointment or come along to a drop-in session, at Dewars or Perth Central as soon as you can.”
