Heartland FM Celebrates Local Radio Day

LISTEN: Alistair Smith speaks to Local Radio Day chairman, Dom Chambers, about 2022’s celebrations.

Friday, the 21st of October, marks the seventh annual UK Local Radio Day. The day aims to celebrate the impact of local radio, and strengthen the connections that local radio brings to communities, industry professionals, and to individuals.

Heartland FM will be joining in with this year’s celebration of all things local about radio. The theme for Local Radio Day 2022 is “Celebrating The Sound”. The station will be joining in with the theme by celebrating the sound of Highland Perthshire, by playing our listeners’ favourite songs all day on the station.

Local Radio Day was originally created in 2015 by UKRD (UK Radio Developments) with the aim of bringing together local stations on a national level. The day is now being managed by Sound Vision, a charity who are dedicated to empowering the voices of those less heard. Sound Vision have been managing the day since 2019.

With every passing year, local radio stations become more important to communities, and bring the power to unite people during times such as the COVID-19 pandemic and helping people to reconnect with their local community once restrictions were lifted. As the country moves on from the pandemic, local radio remains a friendly and familiar voice to support the community as we move forward into new challenges that lie ahead.
