A9 Switches Over to New Lane from this Morning

Drivers have been advised to take additional care on the A9 as a new traffic management layout takes effect today.

Traffic will be switched to a newly constructed carriageway between the Luncarty Junction and the new Stanley/Tullybelton Junction overnight on Monday 8th March 2021.

Transport Scotland project sponsor, Gemma Patterson said:

“From 6am in the morning, there will be a new traffic management layout.

“We’re removing the cross over between the Luncarty junction and the Tullybelton junction.

“Road users will now be travelling on the new section of road for the entire length of the works.

“It’s quite a major milestone for the project.”

The new traffic management arrangement will be in place from 6am on Tuesday 9th March 2021.

Temporary traffic signals will be in place on the A9 for up to five nights, starting Monday 8th March between 7:30pm and 6am to allow for the removal of temporary barriers, relocation of site access points and alteration of the traffic management layout to guide road users onto the new carriageway.

Following the traffic switch, road users will utilise the newly constructed A9 southbound carriageway for the entire 5.9 mile (9.5km) journey through the project site.

Drivers are being reminded that traffic will remain in single carriageway configuration. The existing no overtaking and 40mph speed restriction remains in place and will be enforced by Police Scotland and average speed cameras.

The planned traffic management is weather dependent and subject to change, therefore, please refer to Traffic Scotland for live traffic up-dates www.trafficscotland.org
