Applications for Clothing and Free School Meals Grant Available Now

Costs limiting healthy school meal options for pupils, ministers warned

Parents in Highland Perthshire are being reminded that applications for free school meals and assistance with clothing are now open for the 22/23 session.

Whilst free meals are available to pupils in P1-P5 without parents/carers submitting a form, children are no longer automatically entitled to this when they reach P6 unless their parents meet certain conditions and an application must be made.

However, if you are receiving any of the following then support is available:

  • Income Support
  • Income-based Job Seeker’s Allowance
  • Any income related element of Employment and Support Allowance
  • Child Tax Credit, but not Working Tax Credit, with an income of less than £17,005
  • Both Child Tax Credit and Working Tax Credit with an income of up to £7,920
  • If you are between 16 and 18 years old and receive any of these benefits in your own right, you can claim free school meals for yourself.
  • Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • Universal Credit with a monthly earned income of not more than £660

Parents and carers in need of an annual school clothing grant can receive £120 per child in primary school and £150 per child in secondary school.

However, assistance with school clothing/footwear is unavailable to nursery pupils.

It is recommended that anyone needing to fill out an application does so by the beginning of August as forms submitted after this date may not be reviewed in time for the beginning of the school year.
