
The Dun Coillich Rural Skills Training course returns this year offering young people aged 16 to 25 the opportunity to learn skills that can be used in many outdoor and agricultural jobs. The course will be held at the Dun Coillich Community Land which is next to Schiehallion on the Aberfeldy to Tummel Bridge road.
The course is managed by the Highland Perthshire Communities Land Trust (HPCLT) and is ran as a part-time course for 20 weeks. The course is usually one to two days a week with one of the days tending to be a Wednesday. Thanks to support from the Gannochy Trust, SSE’s Griffin, Calliachar Community Fund, The Robertson Trust and The Hugh Fraser Foundation, the course is free to anyone living within the Highland Perthshire area.
The specific training that will be given on the course is:
- Emergency Outdoor First Aid (BASP) (1 day)
- Risk Assessment and Site Safety (1 day)
- LANTRA 2 Day Chainsaw Maintenance and Cross-cutting
- LANTRA 2 day Brushcutters/Trimmers – Maintenance and Operation
- LANTRA 2 Day Safe Application of Pesticides Using Handheld Equipment
- LANTRA 2 Day Sit Astride ATV (Novice Operator)
- Ropes Training (1 day)
- Introduction to Dry Stone Walling (2 days)
- Introduction to Woodland and Habitat Management (1 day)
- Tree planting, Aftercare and Maintenance (2 days)
- Introduction to footpath work (2 days)
- Fencing Building, repair and restoration (3 days)
- Habitat and Wildlife Monitoring (2 days)
