Beatrix Potter Sings at Birnam Book Festival

This Sunday as part of the Birnam Arts Book Festival soprano singer Colleen Nicoll and pianist Andrew Johnston will be reading the stories of Beatrix Potter and performing the songs written by primary three students at Pitlochry, Grandtully and Dunkeld before the pandemic.

Originally meant to be a part of a show called Tales of Beatrix Potter, which was cancelled due to the pandemic. The stories of Peter Rabbit, Mrs Tiggy Winkle, and The Tale of Jeremey Fisher, have been taken by the children and had songs written into them. The plan for the show had these stories linked through letters written by Beatrix Potter while she was in Birnam, being read and sung by Colleen.

Speaking about the performance on Sunday, Colleen Nicoll said: “I will be wearing a costume like Beatrix Potter, trying to look as much like her as I can, and Andy he’ll be on the piano, he will be dressed as Mr McGregor.”

“We’ll be reading the stories and when the time comes within each story to sing the songs, we’ll be singing them.”

The performance as set to upstairs in the dance studio at Birnam Arts at 10:15am, but has now been moved to the main hall to allow for a larger audience.
