A new monthly Gaelic café will starting this Saturday 5th of February in Birks cinema in Aberfeldy with a special local speaker.
This month the guest will be Aberfeldy’s own Calum Maclean host of the BBC ALBA series Dhan Uisge (Into the Water) were he shares his passion for swimming in remote rivers and lochs.
Calum MacLean had this to say about the upcoming evet:
“This is the first Gaelic cafe of the year at the Burke Cinema so there’s going to be a series on Saturdays of the Gallic Cafe, which is an opportunity for Gaelic learners and fluent Gaelic speakers too Come to the café.
“How they work says first of all I’ll be giving a talk which is going to be based on Gaelic in the waterscape that is kind of combination of my great interest in outdoor swimming and the great outdoors in Scotland and bringing that in with different stories of places have been.
“Connecting at some Gaelic place names and how do they connect? Not just in Highland Perthshire, but there’s going to be a kind of focus around Perthshire, also wider across Scotland as well.
“the initial talk will be bilingual for about 45 minutes and then being opportunity afterwards for another 45 minutes for just a Gaelic only session. So people who are fluent in Gaelic wants another opportunity to use the Gaelic.
“It’ll be a chance to sit and chat and converse and after me we have a series of guests coming in and speaking on their own there specialist subject throughout the year so it’s good. I’m really looking forward to it.”
The café will be running from 10:00am-12:30pm the first Saturday of every month
