The Perth and Kinross Council will be considering a petition with over 1,000 signatures which is trying to start a Thai restaurant from inside a restored railway carriage in Pitlochry.
Earlier, the Perth and Kinross Council granted planning permission for the idea to go ahead in one of their car parks, but another committee decided not to let businesses use their car park to sell food, which the restaurant was planning to do because it is near the train station.
Now the property sub-committee, who decided not to rent their parking spaces out, are going to hear the petition from the restaurant owners called the Wee Choo Choo.
A spokesperson for the Perth and Kinross Council explained: “The Property Sub-Committee has agreed to consider this petition when it meets in January and will then decide if any further action on the part of the Council is necessary.”
Fergus McCallum, director of the family business, says he’s glad that the council are hearing the petition which reached 1,182.
He said: “Perth Council, after having received a petition with over eleven hundred signatures have agreed to hear that petition in January of 2022. We want to thank all of the community for all the support we’ve received over the last few months, we are truly grateful. Thank you very, very much.”
Mr McCallum and his family also met with, MSP for Mid Scotland and Fife, Murdo Fraser looking for support.
Mr Fraser said: “It was good to meet the McCallums and hear about their exciting plans for a new Thai restaurant in Pitlochry. I know that they are keen on the Rie-achan Road site, but am also aware that there are concerns about the loss of car parking spaces there.
“I am pleased to hear that the Council will look at the matter again in January and I hope that all parties will have the chance to put their case then.”
