COVID boosters can now be given 12 weeks after second dose

Fresh call to end global vaccine inequality ahead of G20 summit

NHS Tayside is now offering COVID booster jabs, to people who have already had their second dose of the vaccine, after advice suggested this will help to tackle the Omicron variant.

A spokesperson for NHS Tayside said: “Following the recommendation from the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) earlier this week, NHS Tayside is now offering COVID booster appointments for eligible people 12 weeks after their second dose.”

People in Tayside can book an appointment for a booster 12 weeks after their second dose if they are:

  • over 40
  • over 16 with an underlying health condition
  • over 16 and an unpaid carer
  • over 16 and living with someone who is immunosuppressed

NHS Tayside’s spokesperson added: “People aged 18-39 will also shortly be invited to book their boosters with a minimum 12 week gap and further information will follow in the coming weeks.

“16 and 17-year-olds are now being offered a second dose as long as 12 weeks have passed since their first dose.

“Appointments for this age group can be booked at www.nhsinform.scot/16to17 or through the national helpline.”
