LISTEN: John Duff shares why he thinks this is an important offer this year
From today, the council is offering free parking over the festive season in an effort to help support local businesses.
Starting this Saturday, through to December 26, Perth and Kinross council’s car parks will be free to use in the hopes it will encourage shoppers into local high streets.
Highland Ward Councillor, John Duff, said: “In the current situation, it is really important that we support our local businesses. That way we will save local jobs.
“Perth and Kinross Council has removed parking charges in its off street car parks at weekends throughout December.
“This means free off street parking on Saturdays and Sunday’s in council car parks Pitlochry, Dunkeld, Crieff, Blairgowrie as well as Perth.”
Another councillor, Grant Laing, suggested that people in Highland Perthshire also reach out online to buy from local shops too.
‘We should not just look to shop local’, says Mr Laing, ‘we should look to buy Christmas gifts from crafters across the area.’
Mr Duff wanted to stress how shopping local will help strengthen communities.
He explained: “I would encourage listeners to take advantage of this offer, shop locally for Christmas and help to keep our local economy as buoyant as possible.”
