Join The Big Plastic Count This Week

Residents of Highland Perthshire are being invited to join with thousands across the UK in participating in the Big Plastic Count. From Monday 16th of May to Sunday 22nd of May, all participating households, schools, community groups and businesses will be keeping a track of every piece of plastic they throw away.

The count aims to collect evidence of the amount of single use plastic thrown out every week, in the hopes giving the government, supermarkets and companies a push to tackle the plastic crisis, including a commitment to reduce single plastic use by 50% by 2025.

The aim of the count is not to make those participating feel bad about the amount of plastic they use, but to show that too much single-use plastic is produced and there are not enough reusable alternatives that suit everyone’s needs.

If you miss a day or a few items it is not the end of the world, ideally a full seven days gives the best data and stronger evidence. But if some items are missing it is not a big deal.
