NHS Reminder for Shingles and Pneumococcal Vaccines

Covid vaccine to be offered to all five to 11-year-olds in Wales, minister says

NHS Tayside are reminding residents of Highland Perthshire about the availability of both the pneumococcal and shingles vaccine.

People aged 65 or over and those with specific health conditions are eligible for the pneumococcal vaccine.

This helps to protect against a form of bacterial meningitis as well as other conditions like ear infections.

Those aged between 70 and 79 on 1 September 2021 are eligible for a shingles vaccine.

This is caused by the same virus which causes chicken pox.

The shingles vaccine is given as one dose and, whilst pneumococcal vaccination is generally the same, it can vary depending on any underlying health conditions.
