Perth Art Gallery Brings Local Stories from Perthshire Tradition

This spring the Perth Art Gallery will open an exciting new exhibition, Glass, celebrating an art form and industry that made the region’s name famous worldwide.

Glass as a material protects us from the outside elements, contains our best scientific discoveries, improves our vision, decorates our homes and holds our food and drink. Glass made in Perthshire is still highly prized with stunning pieces made by Monart Glass, Pethshire Paperweights and Caithness Glass, among others.

The new exhibition will showcase the ancient art of glassmaking. With Perth now designated as the UK’s first UNESCO City of Craft, Perth Art Gallery is looking for the public to get involved with the exhibition by sharing their stories, photographs and memories of the glass industry. If you have an item of glass with a local connection or a story or photograph of your time working in the glass industry, you are invited to submit contributions to the new exhibition by getting in touch with the team at Perth Art Gallery.

Objects and stories from the public can be submitted for consideration via the Culture Perth and Kinross website, www.culturepk.org.uk/glass. Submissions received by 28 February 2023 will be considered for inclusion in the exhibition.

The exhibition opens in Spring 2023.
