Photography Competiton Tayken By Me Nears Deadline

LISTEN: Amy Liptrott explains what Tayken by Me is all about

Pitlochry Festival Theatre and Perth and Kinross Countryside Trust have joined forces to create an amateur photography competition designed to celebrate the River Tay and encourage visitors to Highland Perthshire.

The TAYken by Me festival gives the opportunity for amateur photographers to showcase their skills and ingenuity in exhibiting the River Tay Way.

Associate Director of Pitlochry Festival Theatre and one of the judges of the competition, Amy Liptrott, said: “The River Tay is a life force that goes through the communities around the Tay and it’s a way of reaching out to those communities and joining us all together.

“It’s the longest river in Scotland, starting in Ben Lui and going all the way through to Dundee.

“It’s an extraordinary river.”

The competition is free to enter and open to photographers worldwide, but the images must have been taken between the competition dates – October 1st 2020 to March 31st 2021 in the vicinity of the River Tay.

Local businesses have shown their support for the event in joining the judging panel and providing additional prizes for competitors.

Amy added: “We have brilliant sponsors for each of the prizes. Cat Burton who is a wonderful photographer in Perth is sponsoring the Young Person’s Prize and she’s going to be offering a workshop to the young person who wins that competition.

There are five categories to enter:

Young People (Sponsored by Cat Burton Photography)

Trees of the Tay (Sponsored by Dunkeld House Hotel)

Wildlife of the Tay (Sponsored by Perthshire Wildlife)

Architecture of the Tay (Sponsored by The Scottish Crannog Centre)

Hidden Details of the Tay (Sponsored by The Highland Chocolatier)

The judges will be looking for originality, creativity and technique. Amy said: “You can’t fail to be amazed – every step out of my door I’m amazed at nature. It is stunning around here.

“I think this gives us a chance to actually go out and remember how beautiful it is and to really celebrate what we’ve got around us.

“We’re looking for unusual pictures and maybe a new way of looking at things that we are very familiar with – things we haven’t seen before – so get out there and explore and show us your exploring.”

The competition closing date is Midnight GMT, 31st March 2021. Queries can be sent to taykenbyme@pitlochryfestivaltheatre.com and further information found at https://pitlochryfestivaltheatre.com/whats-on-digital/shades-of-tay/tayken-by-me-photography-competition/
