Rotary Club to End Classic Car Rally in Pitlochry

The Rotary Club of Blairgowrie will this weekend be hosting their fourth annual Drive-it-Day this Sunday, 22nd August with funds raised going to benefit various charities.

The fund-raising event has historically raised almost £74,000 for various worthy charities and the fundraising continues this year for charities Alzheimer Scotland and Bowel Cancer UK.

The Blairgowrie Classic Car Tour website outlines the picturesque route classic car enthusiasts will take as well as some treats along the way:

“This is our fourth year of Drive it Day. Route and lunch and high tea venues, will I am sure make everyone very happy.

“The event will start from Blairgowrie Golf Club (bacon roll and coffee available for £5.00) and will first go into Blairgowrie prior to heading towards St Andrews with a picnic lunch stop at The West Sands.

“The afternoon drive will be through Kinross, Glendevon and Crieff. Then onwards to Aberfeldy, finishing at the beautiful Atholl Palace Hotel, Pitlochry for High Tea (£20.00), prize giving, raffle and auction.”

Among the participants with be MSP for Mid Scotland and Fife, Murdo Fraser driving his 1972 Triumph Stag.

Mr Fraser has a Just Giving page for donations in support of the event which has already raised over £1000.

Murdo Fraser MSP said:

 “Congratulations are due to Blairgowrie Rotary Club for persevering with this event, which was due to be held last year but had to be postponed due to Covid restrictions.

“We will be travelling through Perthshire and Fife, after being set off by Provost Dennis Melloy from Blairgowrie Golf Club at 10am on August 22.  It would be great for any local residents to give us a wave as we pass by.

“This is also an opportunity to raise funds for the very good cause that is Alzheimer Scotland – one dear to my heart. A close family member had Alzheimer’s.

“It is sure to be an exciting and rewarding day, with the money raised going to a good cause. Fingers crossed that we will have good weather and no breakdowns!”
