Schools and nurseries across Perth and Kinross will be closed next Thursday due to strike action.
The strike has been called by Educational Institute of Scotland (EIS) and the Association of Headteachers and Deputes in Scotland (AHDS) in a national dispute over pay. Members of the union had been offered a five percent pay rise, but this offer was rejected.
Head of Education and Learning with Perth and Kinross Council, Sharon Johnston, said: “We understand how frustrating and difficult this situation will be for many families.
“However, we cannot operate schools safely without the required number of staff and so have taken the difficult decision to close all schools next week.
“Negotiations are continuing at a national level and we will continue to update parents and carers about the impact of the dispute on our schools.”
It is highly likely that all schools and nurseries will be affected by the strike, due to the number of staff who are part of the unions. The decision has therefore been made to close all schools to pupils on Thursday, 24th of November in the interest of student safety.
All Kids Clubs and wraparound care will also be closed, however, School Lets will remain open as normal.
Free school meals payments will be made directly to those who are in receipt of qualifying payments. Pupils who attend Fairview International School will receive payments for free school meals and these payments will be included in the Christmas payment.
