Scottish Fire and Rescue Service Set to Patrol Countryside

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) is working alongside the council’s ranger team to patrol the countryside and prevent accidents.

They will be ensuring the environment is kept tidy and make sure everyone is kept safe and that visitors understand what is expected of them.

The SFRS go out on Fridays and Saturdays, alternating between Loch Rannoch and Loch Tummel and give any tourists leaflets covering the do’s and don’ts

Crew Commander at Kinloch Rannoch James Black said: “It’s just all about making sure everyone is safe.

“We’d rather be proactive rather than reactive; we don’t want to be turning up with a big red truck and having to put out a campfire.”

Whilst most people behave responsibly, Highland Perthshire has had some issues with wild campers.

Commander Black added: “People are coming to our area to see the wildlife and they don’t want a mess to be left behind especially people who are coming here and spending money.

“It’s in the entire community’s interest that we keep it clean.”
