WATCH: Chris Ahren shares how people can reach out for support
Perth and Kinross Councillor Chris Ahern has issued his thanks to those who have served in the Armed Forces and put forward the veteran’s support resources available to residents in Highland Perthshire.
Councillor Ahern served in the Royal Air Force in the UK and overseas and like many Scots has family connections to Afghanistan.
Councillor Ahern said: “As the Armed Forces champion, I help and support the Armed Forces and the families here in Perth and Kinross.
“I have a personal connection with Afghanistan as I had a sister who served there several times who was injured and unfortunately died as a result of those injuries sustained on active service in Afghanistan.
Councillor Ahern is Perth & Kinross Councils Armed Forces champion and urges any veterans in the area to take advantage of the resources available.
Councillor Ahern added: “There is a lot of support out there for the Armed Forces. There are a large number of organisations that will help.
“Each branch of the Armed Forces has their own welfare charities and all that advice for people in Perth and Kinross is on the Perth and Kinross council website.
“I know not everyone has access to the internet or is able to find it so they can contact me directly or they can contact the council and they will be given the information and sent a booklet with all the advice and all the charities out there to help.
“I would personally like to thank everyone that has served overseas in any area – especially those that have served in Afghanistan.
“There is support out there if you need it.”
