Welfare Rights Team Offers Help in the Face of Cost of Living Crisis

Anybody in Perth & Kinross struggling with the current cost of living crisis can access help through the Welfare Rights Team.

This is run by Perth & Kinross Council and provides free and confidential advice to ensure that people entitled to benefits are receiving them.

It also caters to anybody who is in financial need from disabled people to the elderly to students whilst their website offers a benefit calculator where people can work out what they’re entitled to.

There is also a service funded by Macmillan Cancer Support which is tailored specifically towards the needs of those suffering from the disease.

People are able to contact the team for a wide range of reasons although generally it is due to financial struggles or a significant change in circumstances due to health problems or being made unemployed.

In 2020/21, the team was able to generate over £5.5 million in benefit income for those who needed it due to their direct involvement.

They also offer an appeal representation service where people can go to an independent appeal tribunal if they feel their claim for benefits was wrongly rejected.

In 2020/21, 83% of appeals done via the service were successful.

The team can be contacted on 01738 476900 or emailed via welfarerights@pkc.gov.uk.
