The United Kingdom marks, Queen Elizabeth II’s seventy-year reign this weekend with a four day weekend and celebrations up and down the country. With a number of events taking place across Highland Perthshire.
In Aberfeldy a beacon will be lit at the Black Watch Memorial, on Taybridge Drive on Thursday the 2nd of June with the ceremony starting at 9:35pm.
– 9.35pm Piper will play Diu Regnare, the first of two tunes written especially for the event
– 9.40pm Bugler plays Her Majesty, the second of the tunes
– 9.45pm Beacon lit by Deputy Lieutenant
– 9.45pm Song for the Commonwealth
– 9.50pm End of Ceremony
Flowers in Feldy have also been out and about planting flowers in the boat at the east entrance of the town with a Jubilee feel.
In Blair Atholl there will be a number of events, like in Aberfeldy they will also light a beacon on the 2nd of June, with the Welcome starting at 9:30pm and the Beacon being lit at 9:45pm, the same time as every other beacon lighting.
On Saturday 4th of June, there will also be a Picnic in the Park event held in the Memorial Park in Blair Atholl from 11am until 3pm, with face painting from noon, traditional music and a ceilidh, a kid’s fancy dress parade, scavenger hunt, cake tent, craft stalls and a beer tent.
In Dunkeld the Community Archive have organised a parade at 10:15am, on the 4th of June from the Niel Gow Statute in Stanley Park with the Vale of Atholl Pipe Band, Dunkeld Army Cadet Force, the Scottish and North Irish Yeomanry and many more.
There will be further events taking place throughout the 4th and 5th, with Pipe Band and music, exhibits in the Archive and a fancy-dress competition.
In Pitlochry, they will also be lighting a beacon at the Church of Scotland on Church Road, starting at 9:35. With the ceremony following the same pattern as the Aberfeldy Beacon lighting.
The Heritage Centre are holding a Floral Competition and have a display up of the Queen’s reign. In the Moulin Square on the 5th of June there will be a celebration, with BBQ, cake, tea, and coffee. With Music, dancing, and children’s activity.
And in Perth there will be a wide range of festivities held with a Beacon lighting taking place in Perth on the 2nd, a Classic Car display in Tay Street on the 4th and the Perthshire Mela and Community Big Lunch with a parade and entertainment at the North Inch.
