Last week I mentioned bronuts. Yes, you read that right. Chocolate brownies that look like doughnuts! So if you have a favourite brownie recipe, all you need is a silicone doughnut mould and crack on with your recipe. I found a bronut recipe online that seemed to me to be fairly fast and inexpensive. It’s essentially a brownie recipe, so you can make delicious, fudgy brownies too. Picture is my effort! You really cannot make a silk purse out of a sows ear! 😂
Ingredients
- 115g butter
- 220g sugar
- 70g plain flour (I only had self-raising, so I used that)
- 50g good quality cocoa
- 2 large eggs
- Tablespoon veg oil
- Teaspoon vanilla
Method
- Heat the butter and oil in a pan (hot, not boiling), mix in the sugar and whisk for 1 minute.
- Add eggs and vanilla and whisk again for 1 minute.
- Sift the cocoa and flour into the mix and fold in. At this point add in extras like chocolate chunks, fruit and nuts or your favourite chocolate bar in chunks.
- Bake at 170(fan) for 15 mins OR 25-30 mins in a traybake.
- Pop in fridge once cool and allow to cool fully. Depending on size, make a bronut sandwich with 2 bronuts using fillings like biscoff or Nutella.
- Decorate with melted chocolate, icing, biscoff/Nutella type spreads – anything that takes your fancy and lends itself to a decorated doughnut look. I treat this more as a pudding than a treat with a cuppa but if you have a mini doughnut mould they would be a nice wee treat.
